He too has a love interest in Indu (Samantha Ruth), who has a friend Bhoomi (Kajal). The twist is that Bhoomi’s father (Prakash Raj) wants to get her married to her cousin (Ajay), which Bhoomi doesn’t like. Naturally, she bluffs to the family that she has already fallen in love with a guy. Indu helps her by renting Krish as her would-be, just to let her escape the wedding situation for the time being. Going to the village of her pretending lover, Krish successfully solves the rivalry between the girl’s dad and his brother (Srihari). Impressed with the talent of Krish, Bhoomi’s dad accepts her love and declares them as would-be-couple. A surprise twist is revealed that Indu is daughter of Srihari i.e., Indu and Bhoomi are in fact cousin sisters.

Preama kavali movie 2011

Posted by Deepak 8:23 PM, under | No comments

Prema Kavali is yet another love story. It is fresh only in terms of introducing new kids on the block Aadi (son of actor and dubbing artiste Sai Kumar) and Isha Chawla as the lead protagonists. Director K Vijayabhaskar, known for his love stories has helmed a film loaded with action, song and dance to showcase the hero Aadi's fighting and dancing skills. Otherwise the love story is on familiar terrain.

Srinivas (Aadi) loves Prema (Isha Chawla), the daughter of a police officer played by Nasser. Prema is blackmailed by Shafi (on account of a photo that shows she and Srinivas kissing). Since she is scared of her father, she doesn't tell him but confides in her sister-in-law (played by Sindhu Tolani).

She decides to break up with Srinivas because of the kiss. Meanwhile Srinivas returns after a two-month NCC camp. When he comes to know about Prema's decision not to see him, he decides to woo her back. All love stories can't be rosy, so there's Thakur (Dev Gill) as villain. There's a terrorist angle too.

Vijayabhaskar has chosen the beaten path, story wise. He has however got Chota K Naidu as Director of Photography who has enhanced the film with his brilliant and breath-taking camera work. In fact it is the cinematography which stands out -- be it in the songs or the action sequences. Anup Reubens' musical score sounds fine.

Aadi makes a sincere and earnest effort to carry the film on his shoulders. His enthusiasm is reflected on the screen. Aadi is flexible and nimble on his feet and dances well. He tries to downplay his acting and not go over the top. On the whole, he has a product packaged to showcase him well.

Isha Chawla too tries to be subtle. The chemistry between the lead pair is just about okay though Isha looks a bit older than Aadi in a few scenes. Shafi is a good actor but is wasted in such inconsequential roles. The band of comedians like Brahmanandam, M S Narayana and Ali are seasoned enough to do their parts well.

Prema Kavali is one of those love stories with a melange of all commercial elements.

Mangala Movie (2011)

Posted by Deepak 8:19 PM, under | No comments

The beginning seems to be very absorbing..the story scares you initially but the scares becomes virtually nonexistent as Mangala moves ahead. Osho Tulasiram tells all in the first half an hour and doesn't know what to do with the rest of the film. Even if he had revealed the plot entirely, he doesn't show the skill to keep the interest sustained throughout.

In Mangala we follow a strange looking Pradeep Rawat into his home where his grown-up son means everything to him. The son needs money to shower it over a movie star and the father does the most gruesome act of killing a kid through black magic and he doles out the money he gets in return to fulfill his son's wish. In a striking metaphorical scene the director shows the sinful man feeding his son the ill-gotten wealth in a huge vessel and the son later taking it over as a gift to the film actress. The actress mistakes him for an erring fan and hurts him that leads him to poison himself. Pradeep Rawat is now on a mission to take revenge on the actress because he thinks she is responsible for his son's death.

That's the end of the story. The next half is about how the actress is possessed through black magic and what is done to free her from the agony, who helps her out through the trauma?

Charmi is unbelievably and appropriately dynamic, looks really good and acts well but all her effort goes in vain in a story that looks contrived and an unbearable drag. A mosquito gets into Charmi's left nostril, exits after a while from the right after a tour inside her tummy and soon after she vomits blood. For a moment one begins to think the mosquito must have raped her and she might have thrown up as a follow up act. The rest of her antics, how the black magic comes in her favour when surrounded by goons at a tea stall in the midst of a field is simply dramatic and incredible. The scene looks lovingly and sincerely made for the floor audiences.

When Charmi is not flying in the air or falling on cactus she shakes her ass in songs for reasons that only her choreographer can understand. In one scene she drinks tea and tells her Man Friday..idhi kooda nee laage chedhu ga undhi, sounding like a baby. You then wonder if she is acting in the film Mangala or in the film Pellikoothuru Nalla Cheera. Some bad direction this.

The driver's son's role Subbu (or is he the driver?) is very strange, very seldom do we get to see domestic helps sharing bed with mistress of the house, he jumps onto her bed because an insect gets into his ear. Don't mistake his intentions, he has only concern and nothing more than that for his madam, he even wears a heap of charms and amulets around his wrist to ward of the evil spirit. Some day he declares he will become a mass hero and you dread that could be his plan to improve his status to get close to her. Even while you stretch your imagination as such characters come in and go out, Charmi approaches Pradeep Rawat with an apology because only he can save her.

What happens after that, don't ask. If you are Charmi's fan do see the film for the amount of acting and screaming she does. There's a horrible scene in the beginning, that of Pradeep Rawat beheading a kid with so much ease and in such a casual way that it just makes you numb. Uttej shines more through his expressions in this story as a hapless producer, does a natural act of being harassed by a Tamil director.

Mangala in short is a paragon of boredom, repulses you with it's mediocre content and execution.

Veedokkade Telugu Movie

Posted by Deepak 5:42 PM, under | No comments

Film: Veedokkade

Cast: Surya, Tamannah, Prabhu, Akashdeep Saigal, Jagan, Ponvannan, Renuka, M S Bhaskar and others
Dialogues: Rajashri Sudhakar and Kumarjee
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Cinematography: M S Prabhu
Editing: Anthony
Art: Rajeevan
Produced by: M Saravanan, M S Guhan, Aruna Guhan, Aparna Guhan
Banner: AVM
Directed by: K V Anand
Release date: May 1, 2009
CBFC Rating: U/A

Whats it about!
Deva (Surya) completes post-graduation but works as courier to smuggler Das (Prabhu). The rival smuggler Kamalesh (Akash Deep) cant digest the success of Das and Deva team. So he hatches several plans to grab clients from them but fails. On the other hand, Chitti (Jagan) joins Das team and the friendship between Deva and Chitti develops. Soon Deva falls in love with Chittis sister Yamuna. Rivalry between Kamalesh and Das-Deva leads to bloody clash. Rest of the movie is how Deva comes out from smuggling and helps government with his expertise in it.

Analysis

The story of Veedokkade is as old as Himalayas but the premise (smuggling, pirated CDs business, et) and con acts are novel. Presentation by director K V Anand is engrossing in the first half. Post the interval, the movie lacks fizz and falters with its wafer thin storyline. It can be watched for its slick narration, realistic action episodes, great locales, and Suryas performance. In a way the movie looks sold in parts, but lacks consistency and a basic thread to hold the audiences interest till the end. That is the biggest drawback. It also lacks entertainment and the romance between Surya and Tamannah is not that impressive. The picturisation of songs and Yamakashi style of action episode are assets to the movie.

PerformancesSurya has brought realistic approach to his acting style. His looks are great and he does extremely well in action stunts. Surya has tried to play to the galleries as well as class audiences with his varied performance. But his dubbed voice is mismatch. Tamannah is apt for the role of Yamuna and she has good chemistry with Surya. Senior actor Prabhu is perfect cast for the role of smuggler with principles. He has transformed into a fine actor now than he played the lead roles. Jagan who played the role of Chitti has done commendable job.

Technically, it is M.S.Prabhus cinematography catches the eye. Especially his work is very impressive in foreign locales and the picturisation of item number. Director K V Anand has tried to incorporate realistic approach to regular masala action episodes but he should have taken more care on script. Clash of two rival gangs is pretty plain. Haaris Jayarajs music is okay.

Bottom-line

Veedokkade is regular masala potboiler with touch of sophistication and is realistic in its approach. The movie is okay but drags on in the second half. It can be watched for some good action episodes, slick presentation and Suryas performance.

TC Rating: 3/5

Sivaji Telugu Movie (Rajanikanth,Shriya)

Posted by Deepak 6:25 PM, under | No comments

The film begins with a masked person brought to the Central Jail in Chennai, India. When asked by a fellow-inmate for the reasons behind his imprisonment, the masked person replies that he is imprisoned for attempting to do good for the people. The unmasked person is revealed to be Sivaji (Rajinikanth). The story then winds into a flashback that shows him returning from the United States as a software systems architect to Chennai. He brings with him earnings of up to 200 crore, with an intention to begin a charity organization called the Sivaji Foundation. This organization has the aim of building hospitals and educational institutions to serve the poor without any charge. However, he faces the obstacles of bureaucracy and corrupt officials. Forced to set aside his principles, Sivaji bribes his way through the system. Though at one stage, unable to deal with spiraling costs, he even mortgages his palatial house and personal property in the process. Adiseshan (Suman), a highly influential businessman, sees Sivaji Foundation as competition to his own business empire. Using his political strings, he repeals the permits issued to the foundation by the government. Sivaji approaches a lawyer, using his own car to pay the lawyer's fee. However in court he is forced to admit he bribed numerous officials. This undermines his case and the judge reiterates the stay order on construction by the Sivaji Foundation.

Meanwhile, Sivaji falls in love with a girl named Tamizhselvi (Shriya). Her family is initially scared and angered by the overbearing nature of Sivaji's family, though they eventually accede to Sivaji's request for Tamizhselvi's hand in marriage. However upon asking for his horoscope; the astrologer predicts impeding doom leading up to Sivaji's death if the two are united. When Tamizhselvi refuses the proposal due to her concern for Sivaji, he calms her fears and manages to convince her to marry him.

After losing the court trial, Sivaji faces-off against Adiseshan.

Adiseshan mocks Sivaji and gives him a one-rupee coin, challenging him to try and survive with just that. In an ironic plot twist using the very coin, Sivaji sets out to turn around his fortunes and ultimately exact his revenge on Adiseshan. Through just one phone call, paid for with the coin. He estimates that there is about two thousand million INR of illegal, untaxed money within the nation. He then uncovers details about people who have substantial quantities of illegal money and then blackmails each of them, obtaining half of their illegal wealth. Upon transferring the money to bank accounts (owned by friends and contacts) around the world, Sivaji informs the Income Tax Vigilance Department about the details of the illegal money held by the tax evaders (including Adiseshan). Sivaji's associates deposit the money sent across the world as donations to the Sivaji Foundation making the money legitimate and usable by the foundation. Sivaji begins to realize his dream of providing free, good quality education, services and employment to people in every district of Tamil Nadu. His adversaries seek to find out how he converted their illegal money to a usable form by threatening Tamizhselvi with danger to Sivaji's life. Fearing for him, she turns over his notebook PC with all the information regarding the various money transactions to the authorities. With presentable evidence, Sivaji is arrested and the scene returns to the beginning of the movie with Sivaji in central prison.

Sivaji poses as M. G. Ravichandran. Arivu, his maternal uncle stands by his side in the film's climax.

Adiseshan loses control when Sivaji refuses to open his laptop and assaults him in custody with a metal rod. In the process it seems Sivaji has died from the sustained injuries. To cover this up, Adiseshan organizes for thugs to shoot up the police van that will carry Sivaji's dead body. Making it look like murder by a third party. Sivaji however was merely faking his death, he was informed of the plans to kill him by a sympathetic police officer prior to the interrogation. Left alone in the room, he electrocutes himself. Dr. Chezhian (Raghuvaran) and Tamizhselvi intercept the police van (informed by Sivaji after he got the police man's own warning) and manage to cart away Sivaji's 'dead' body under the cover of a coach before the thugs could open fire. In Sivaji's stead they plant a dummy. While everyone believes that Sivaji is dead, Dr. Chezhian revives him using a defibrillator. After a few days when everyone wonders about the future of Sivaji Foundation, the revived Sivaji returns to take control over the foundation in a disguise of a friend, M.G. Ravichandran. Though Adhiseshan realizes that it is Sivaji himself, he is unable to prove this to the police due to the tangible evidence of Sivaji's death. Ravichandran promises to avenge Sivaji's death and eventually manages to corner Adhiseshan and challenge him. After their fight, Adiseshan is killed in a stampede. As a conclusion, the audience are informed of the foundation's success and fulfillment of Sivaji's dreams.
